The Fungarium Sequencing Project (FSP) was launched in 2024 to sequence genomes of fungal type specimens across the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (RBG Kew), Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE), and the Natural History Museum London (NHM). At NHM, the focus is on lichenized fungi. The NHM lichen collection contains around 400,000 specimens collected between 1726 and 2025 from all over the world. There are approximately10,000 nomenclatural type specimens. This dataset includes the 1,140 specimens selected for sampling and sequencing by the project from the 6,514 catalogued lichen type specimens at the Natural History Museum (NHM), London. Please note that work to verify and update the type status of specimens in ongoing.
