Memo: Nye (1975) stated:- Billberg, 1820, Enumeratio Insect. Mus. G. J. Billberg: 76, published the following 'Gonsptera Eg[o]. - Gonepteryx L[ea]ch.' in the butterfly family Pieridae. Scudder, 1875, Proc. Am. Acad. Arts. Sci. 10: 181, interpreted Billberg's emendation as a misspelling which should have read Gonoptera Billberg, 1820. Sherborn, 1926, Index Anim. (1801-850): 2758; Neave, 1939, Nomencl. Zool. 2: 504; and Hemming, 1967, Bull. Br. Mus. nat. Hist. (Ent.) Suppl.9: 201, have all listed Gonoptera Billberg, 1820. If this is accepted as a nomenclaturally available name, then Gonoptera Berthold, 1927, as well as being a junior objective synonym, is a junior homonym and has Scoliopteryx Germar, 1811, as its objective replacement name. See: SCOLIOPTERYX Germar, 1810. Poole (1989) included PTERODONTA R.L., 1817; EPHEMIAS Hübner, 1821; EUPHAIS Hübner, 1822; and GONOPTERA Berthold, 1827 as junior synonyms of SCOLIOPTERYX Germar, 1810.
