Memo: Cowan (1970: 19) stated:- Moore "wrote the descriptive portions"; in Horsfield & Moore, 1857, Cat, lep. Ins. Mus. East India Coy. 1, and is author of most of the new names therein. That statement occurs in the last paragraph of Horsfield's preface, which is dated 7 December 1857, as are page 278 and Appendix IV. Here is another dubious date, for which no further positive information has been found. Search continues. The dating may have been deliberate, but it is possible that Carus & Engelmann, 1861 (Biblioth. zool. 2 (1846-1860) (1) : 577), who are very reliable (and were probably copied by Hagen) were right in dating Volume 1 as [1858]. The India Office Librarian and the publishers Messrs. W. H. Allen have kindly made searches but found nothing. The earliest copy known to me was presented to J. O. Westwood "by Order of the Honble Court of Directors, 31 March 1858" and is endorsed "Thos. Horsfield, India House Library, 9 April 1858". This is significant. Westwood engraved the plates. In addition to references for numerous specific names, the dates for the following Moore genera remain at present in some doubt; ABROTA, CALINAGA, DILIPA, ENOPE, PUNDITS, THEOPE : and IDEOPSIS Horsfield. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
