Memo: Cowan (1970: 11) stated:- Although surely a misprint for Lycaena, it is technically not possible to treat this name so. Mary De la Beche Nicholl published her list of Lebanon Butterflies (annotated by H. J. Elwes) in the usual way. Species Nos. 68-91, the last 24 in the Lycaenidae, all bore generic names which began with the letter L. Number 68 was Lampides baetica, and the generic name of the next four species was denoted by the letter L. Number 73 was given as Lycoena argus, and 74-87 were all given the abbreviation L. Then number 88 was given as Lycaena argiolus, followed by the last three with the letter L. It is only possible to regard the list as giving in his section the three genera Lampides, Lycoena and Lycaena. By the type-designation made above, Lycoena Nicholl, 1901 is invalid as a junior objective synonym of Plebejus Kluk, 1802. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
