| Memo: | Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- Newman, 1856, ibidem (2) 3 (8): 283 stated that the generic names he had adopted were those of Walker and attributed them to him. Three weeks after the publication of Newman's paper, Walker, 1865 [May 10], List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 7: 1713 redescribed Oenosandra boisduvalii, emending the generic name of Oenosanda and replacing the specific name with duponchelii, which he erroneously attributed to Newman. Wheeler, 1911, Trans. ent. Soc. Lond. 1911: 755 stated that Trans. ent. Soc. Lond. (2) 3 (8), the part in which Newman's paper appeared, was received from the printers on 21 April 1856. Nye, 1975 1: 6 stated that Walker, 1856, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 7 was available for issue on 10 May 1856. Oenosandra was established in the Bombycidae; it was placed in the Liparidae, now Lymantriidae, by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 468; it was placed in the Notodontidae by Turner, 1903, Proc. Linn. Soc. N.S.W. 28: 57; and was subsequently placed in the Cnethocampinae, now Thaumetopoeidae, by Turner, 1922, ibidem 47: 373-4. See also: Lomatosticha Möschler, 1872. Oenosandra Walker, 1856 [April 21] was treated in the Thaumetopoeidae by Watson, Fletcher and Nye 1980, 2 : 132. Oenosandra has subsequently been designated as the type-genus for the new family - Oenosandridae by Miller, 1991, Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History (204) : 169. OENOSANDRA was included within the family OENOSANDRIDAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). |
