Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- O. varicolor is a junior subjective synonym of Antheraea astrophela Walker, 1855, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 5: 1255. Opodiphthera varicolor was again proposed as a new genus and a new species by Wallengren in 1860, Wien. ent. Monatschr. 4: 167, and in 1861, K. Svenska Fregatten Eugenies Resa ... C.A. Virgin 1851-53 2 (Zool.) (1, Insecta): 365, pl.7, fig.3. In the two later publications fuller locality data were given. Sinobirma Bryk, 1944 was established to denote a subgenus of Opodiphthera Wallengren, 1858 and was raised to generic level by Nassig & Oberprieler, 1994, Nachrichten des Entomologischen Vereins Apollo15 (3) : 372. OPODIPHTHERA was included within the subfamily SATURNIIDAE: SATURNIINAE by Lemaire & Minet, in Kristensen (1999).
