Memo: Fletcher (1979) stated:- Prionomelia was nomenclaturally available from 1895, but no described species was included; the original designation of Prionomelia * Grisea Warren referred to a nomen nudum. I have not found any subsequently included species, but among Warren's manuscript notes in the BMNH are pencil drawings, together with data, of male and female specimens he intended describing as Prionomelia * Grisea. The three males listed, from Rico, Colorado, are Alcis spododea Hulst, 1896, and are now in the BMNH; the single female listed, from South Park, Colorado, has not been found. In order to place the generic name and to preserve Warren's concept of the genus, I have designated Alcis spododea Hulst, 1896, as type-species. Parsons et al. (1999) included MERISMA McDunnough, 1920 as a junior synonym of PRIONOMELIA Warren, 1895. Parsons et al. (1999) included 7 species in the genus PRIONOMELIA.
