Memo: Nye (1975) stated:- Pygopteryx was originally placed in the Notodontidae. See also Prionoxanthia Draudt, 1950. Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- Pygopteryx was established in the Notodontidae; it was placed in the Noctuidae by Inoue, 1958, Check List Lepid. Japan (5): 497. Poole (1989) included PYGOPTERYX in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE, subsequently restricted to the genus AMPHIPYRA by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). Other genera formerly treated in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE are treated as HADENINAE by Kitching & Rawlins (loc. cit.). Poole (1989) included PRIONOXANTHIA Draudt, 1950 as a junior synonym of PYGOPTERYX Staudinger, 1887. Poole (1989) included only 1 species in the genus PYGOPTERYX.
