Fletcher (1979) stated:-
Staudinger, 1901, in Staudinger & Rebel, Cat. Lepid. palaearct. Faunengeb. 1:357, originally proposed the name conspersaria in the varietal sense for what he believed to be a subspecies of Geometra gilvaria [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, occuring in Labrador and also in the infrasubspecific sense for what he believed to be an aberration of gilvaria occuring in central Asia. The Labrador subspecies was raised to specific in central Asia. The Labrador subspecies was raised to specific rank in the combination Aspilates conspersaria Staudinger by Forbes, 1948, Lepid. N.Y. and neighbouring States 2:80; Munroe, 1963, Can. Ent. 95: 278 accorded conspersaria similiar status. The LECTOTYPE, here designated, bears the following data: Labrador Flbr Schlz 84: Coll. Möschl.: Origin.: v. et ab. conspersaria [in Staudinger's hand writing]: Zool. Mus. Berlin; the specimen, a male, is in the Zoological Museum, Berlin.
Wehrli, 1953, ibidem 4 (Suppl.): 678 raised the asiatic Aspilates gilvaria [Denis & Schiffermüller] ab, conspersaria Staudinger to specific rank in the combination Aspilates (Semiaspilates) conspersaria Staudinger and designated it as type-species of the subgenus Semiaspilates Wehrli, 1953. Under Article 10(b) of the Code, a name first established with infra-subspecific rank becomes available when elevated to a rank in the species-group and takes the date and authorship of its elevation. Thus the type-species of Semiaspilates is Aspilates conspersaria Wehrli, 1953. The characterization of Semiaspilates and of its type-species was based by Wehrli on a series of specimens in his own collection which he believed to represent the asiatic Aspilates gilvaria ab. conspersaria Staudinger. Through the courtesy of Dr H.-E. Back of the Alexander Koenig Museum in Bonn, I have been able to examine a series of six syntypes from the Wehrli collection and here designate the specimens bearing the following data as LECTOTYPE male, [U.S.S.R.]: Gouv. Irkutsk, Sajan montes orient., Tunkinsk Weissberge, 2000 m., Juli: [genitalia slide no.] 7627, in Museum Alexander Koenig, Bonn.
Aspilates conspersaria Wehrli, 1953, is a primary homonym of Aspilates conspersaria Staudinger, 1901. There is no objective replacement name, but A. conpersaria Wehrli appears to be conspecific with Aspilates sibirica Djakonov, 1995, Zool. Zhurn. 34: 557, fig. B; the latter is thus available as a subjective replacement name.
Semiaspilates was originally proposed as a subgenus of Aspitates Treitschke, 1825; it was raised to generic rank by Vojnits, 1975, Annls hist.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. 67: 202.
The part of Seitz containing page 678 has appeared only in the German edition; its date of publication is stated on page 673 to be 12.x.1953.
