Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- B. menthastri is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena lubricipeda Linnaeus, 1758, Syst. Nat. (Edn 10) 1: 505. The name Spilosoma was attributed to Stephens but was used and made nomenclaturally available by Curtis prior to its proposal by Stephens, 1827. Spilosoma Curtis, 1825, was treated as a valid genus and brought out of synonymy by Watson, 1988, Entomologica Scandinavica 19 (3) : 253. SPILOSOMA was included within the subfamily ARCTIIDAE: ARCTIINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999).
