Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- Symmetrodes was established for one species Lithosia nitens Walker, [1865] 1864, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 31: 231. After his redescription Meyrick added `In this instance I have identified Walker's species from description only, and it is possible I may be mistaken'. The following year Meyrick, 1888, established S. sciocosma as a new species for his misidentification L. nitens Walker sensu Meyrick, 1887, and added `I propose this name for the species which I identified from Walker's description as his Lithosia nitens; having since seen his specimens, I find the identification to be erroneous ...'. This is a case of misidentified type-species which under the Code, Article 70(a), should be referred to the Commission.
