Memo: Nye (1975) stated:- The type-species is preoccupied by Noctua flavago [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, Ankündung syst. Werkes Schmett. Wienergegend: 86, - Noctuidae, Acronictinae. There is no objective replacement name but Phalaena togata Esper, 1788, Die Schmett. 4 (1): pl. 124, fig. 1; 1791, ibidem: 336, is a junior subjective synonym and is therefore available for use as a subjective replacement name. N. flavago Fabricius, 1787, is also a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena (Noctua) lutea ström, 1783, Nye Samling Kongelige Danske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter 2: 78, fig. 26, but this is a junior homonym of Phalaena (Geometra) lutea Stoll, 1781, and so cannot be used as a replacement name. N. flavago Fabricius, 1787, is also a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena (Noctua) lutea ström, 1783, Nye Sammling Konelige Danske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter 2|: 78, fig. 26, but this is a junior homonym of Phalaena (Geometra) lutea Stoll, 1781, and so cannot be used as a replacement name. Poole (1989) included XANTHA Billberg, 1820; CIRRHIA Hübner, 1821; CITRIA Hübner, 1821; MELLINIA Hübner, 1821; EUTHEMONIA Gistl, 1848; and TILIACEA Tutt, 1896 as junior synonyms of XANTHIA Ochsenheimer, 1816.
