Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- This name is invalid, as it is a junior objective synonym of Thecla Fabricius, 1807, of which the same species is the type-species. Cowan (1970: 42) stated:- AUROTIS Dalman, 1816. K svenska VetenskAkad. Handl. 1816 (1) : 63, 90. Type-species under Article 44a (Nominate Subgenus) : Papilio betulae Linnaeus, 1758. Dalman did not designate type-species for his three subgenera of Zephyrus. He cited one example each on p. 63, but it is not possible to invoke page precedence to make these examples type-species; all those listed on p. 90 are eligible for the function. Aurotis contains the originally designated type-species of Zephyrus and is thus automatically the nominate subgenus : a stillborn synonym of Zephyrus. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
