| Memo: | Nye (1975) stated:- Available but without included species until 1794, ibidem 3(2): [3]. Cossus has been used as the original generic name for species which are now in the Noctuidae. Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Phalaena cossus was included by Fabricius in the synonymy of Cossus ligniperda Fabricius, 1794, ibidem 3 (2): [3], established unnecessarily as an objective replacement name for Phalaena cossus Linnaeus, 1758. COSSUS was included within the subfamily COSSIDAE: COSSINAE by Gentili & Horak, in Kristensen (1999). |
