Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Proposed as an objective replacement name for Lintneria Butler, 1876 November (which Kirby incorrectly dated 1877), in the mistaken belief that it was preoccupied by Lintneria Edwards, 1877 March, - Lepid., Hesperiidae. A junior homonym of Gargantua Jullien, 1888, Miss. scient. Cap. Horn 1882-1883 6 (3): 78, - Bryozoa. Kitching & Cadiou (2000) include GARGANTUA Kirby, 1892; HERSE Agassiz, 1846; HERSE Oken, 1815; HYLOECUS Agassiz, 1846; HYLOECUS Kuznetsova, 1906; HYLOICUS Hübner, 1819; LETHIA Hübner, 1819; LINTNERIA Butler, 1876; MESOSPHINX Cockerell, 1920; and SPECTRUM Scopoli, 1777 as junior synonyms of SPHINX Linnaeus, 1758.
