Memo: | Hemming (1967) stated:- The name Mimene Joicey & Talbot was introduced as a replacement for the name Mimas de Niceville, 1895, which is invalid under the Law of Homonymy. The taxon represented by the nominal species which is the type-species of the present genus is currently treated subjectively on taxonomic grounds - for Example, by Evans, 1949, Cat. Hesp. Europ. Asia Austral. : 430 - as being congeneric with Biaka albidiscus Joicey & Talbot, 1917, the type-species of the genus Biaka Joicey & Talbot, 1917. The generic names Mimene & Biaka are thus on the foregoing basis subjective synonyms of one another, and, as these names were published on the same date and in the same paper - actually on the same page - the relative precedence to be accorded to them depends on the choice made by the First Reviser. The First Reviser in this case was myself when in 1964 (Annot. lep. (3) : 86) I selected the name Mimene Joicey & Talbot to take precedence before the name Biaka Joicey & Talbot. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008). |
