Memo: Nye (1975) stated:- Arctia has been used as the original generic name for species which are now in the Noctuidae. Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- Neave, 1939, Nomencl. zool. 1: 283, also cited `Arctia Hübner [non Schrank] [1820], Verz. bekannt. Schmett., (12): 183'. This was an error, as Hübner was referring to Arctia Schrank, 1802. Arctia Schrank, 1802 is the senior homonym of Arctia Stephens, 1829; Kocak, 1983, Priamus 2 (4) : 158. ARCTIA was included within the subfamily ARCTIIDAE: ARCTIINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999).
