| Memo: | Hemming (1967) stated:- In addition, Rippon introduced this name as new on page 47 of Volume 1 of Icones Ornithopt. 1 : 4. The Icones was published in a peculiar way and the dates of publication of some of the portions in which it appeared are difficult to determine. The portion containing page 47 was published on some unascertainable date in the period 1890-1896. Aetheoptera Rippon, 1894, is a valid subgenus of Ornithoptera, revalidated by Haugum & Low, 1978, A monograph of the birdwing butterflies. Volume 1, part 1. Introduction, Ornithoptera (Aetheoptera), p.44. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008). |
