Memo: Fletcher (1979) stated:- P. hortaria is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena virginiaria Stoll, 1780, in Cramer, Uitlandsche Kapellen (Papillons exot.) 3: 149, 176, pl.275, fig.G. Parsons et al. (1999) included BRONCHELIA Guenée, 1858 as a junior synonym of EPIMECIS Hübner, 1825. Parsons et al. (1999) included 26 species and 2 subspecies (inc. nominates) in the genus EPIMECIS.
Type Comments: Type-locality stated to be Italy, but evidently in error; the species occurs in CANADA and U.S.A.
