Memo: Fletcher (1979) stated:- The objective synonyms Gnophos Treitschke and Scotopterix Hübner were both proposed in 1825. The dates of publication of the relevant parts of the works concerned were discussed by Fletcher, 1966, Entomologist's Gaz. 17: 10-12. Parsons et al. (1999) included ACROGNOPHOS Wiltshire, 1967; CATASCIA Hübner; CHELEGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951; CNESTROGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951; DICROGNATHOS Wehrli, 1951; DYSOGNATHOS Wehrli, 1951; GNOPHUS Agassiz, 1847; ORGANOGNOPHOA Wehrli, 2952; PTERYGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951; RHINOGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1953; RHIPIGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951; SACROGNOPHOS Wehrli, 1951; SCOTOPTERIX Hübner, 1825; SCOTOPTERYX Agassiz, 1847; TRILOBINOPHOA Wehrli, 1951; and ZYSTROGNOPHOS as junior synonyms of GNOPHOS Treitschke, 1825. Parsons et al. (1999) included 120 species and 67 subspecies (inc. nominates) in the genus GNOPHOS.
