Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Pougeot, 1955, ibidem 34: 72, after examining the type of Bombyx nictitans Fabricius, 1775, Syst. Ent.: 558, stated it to be a junior synonym of Phalaena epimethea Drury, 1773, Illust. nat. Hist. exot.Insects 2: 22, Index [1], pl.13, fig.1. The type of nictitans has damaged hindwings, but the genitalia agree with those of epimethea. Rougeot, 1955, ibidem 34: 79, also stated that P. nictitans Fabricius had previously been misidentified by all authors and he established the nominal species Gonimbrasia hecate for Phalaena nictitans Fabricius sensu auct. A male specimen labelled Bunaea nicitans that has been in the collection of the BMNH since 1843 and which would almost certainly have been studied by Butler when he proposed Gonimbrasia, agrees well with his diagnosis of the genus and has proved to be Gonimbrasia hecate Rougeot, 1955. See Frontispiece, fig.5, Gonimbrasia hecate Rougeot, male. Under the Code, Article 70(a), the case of a misidentified type-species should be referred to the Commission.
