Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Carcasson attributed both Gynoeryx and meander to Guenée, 1865, but at that time both names, which Guenée had included in a faunal list as * Gynoeryx maeander Boisduval, were nomina nuda. The type-species was described and made available by Boisduval n 1875 in the combination Smerinthus meander; the generic name was made available by Carcasson in 1968. The type-species was described and made available by Boisduval in 1875 in the combination Smerinthus meander; the generic name was made available by Carcasson in 1968. Viette, 1970, Alexanor 6: 233-234, has discussed the status of the names and attributed Gynoeryx to Carcasson, 1968, with Smerinthus meander Boisduval, [1875], as type-species by original designation. Viette's solution is adopted here. Kitching & Cadiou (2000) list * GYNOERYX Guenée, 1865 as a junior synonym of GYNOERYX Carcasson, 1968.
