Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- On the title-page of each volume of the Disciples Edition, it was stated in French that the edition was `accompanied by plates representing the types of all the genera, the distinctive characters of the different groups and the modification of structure on which this classification is based'. The dates of publication of the parts of the Disciples Edition were discussed and listed by Cowan, 1976, J. Soc. Biblphy nat. Hist. 8(1): 32-64. Invalid designation of type-species: Phalaena vinula Linnaeus, 1758, is designated by Boisduval, 1836, Hist. nat. Insectes (Spec. gén. Lépid.) 1: 134. In the introduction to the volume, pages 1-154, Boisduval reviewed earlier classifications of Lepidoptera and designated as many as three different type-species for each generic name. In his `Exposé de notre méthode', pages 155-690, no type-species designation was made for any of the genera that he himself used. Under the Code, Article 69(a)(iii), the type-species designation of an author is eligible for consideration if he states that it is the type `and if it is clear that he himself accepts it as the type-species'. Boisduval's type-designation, although clearly stated are invalid. Boisduval's 1836 type-designations have not been accepted. Harpyia Ochsenheimer, 1810, as a junior objective synonym of Cerura Schrank, 1802. Boisduval, 1832, in d'Urville, Voyage de Découvertes de l'Astrolabe (Faune ent.) 1: 238, incorrectly attributed to himself the authorship of Harpyia Ochsenheimer, 1810, but misspelt the name as * Harpya. HARPYIA was included within the subfamily NOTODONTIDAE: HETEROCAMPINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999).
