Memo: Nye (1975) stated:- This new name is proposed in honour of Mr Alan H. Hayes in appreciation of his enthusiastic help and textual criticism. Poole (1989) included HAYESIA in the subfamily NOCTUIDAE: SARROTHRIPINAE, which are included as a tribe within the NOLIDAE: CHLOEPHORINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). Poole (1989) included STICTOTHRIPA Hampson, 1912 (preoccupierd) as a junior synonym of HAYESIA Nye, 1975. Poole (1989) included only 1 species in the genus HAYESIA.
