| Memo: | Nye (1975) stated:- P. dipsacea is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena viriplaca Hufnagel, 1776, Berlin. Mag. 3(4): 406. A proposal was to made to the Commission to designate the gender and stem for Heliothis Ochsenheimer, 1816 by Nye, 1980 (case no. 2306) Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature 37 (3) : 189. Also a proposal was made to place Heliothis Ochsenheimer on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology also in the above case. Heliothis Ochsenheimer, 1816 was treated as the senior [subjective] synonym of Helicoverpa Hardwick, 1965 by Todd, 1978, Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington 80 (1) : 3. Heliothinae Boisduval, 1828 (Noctuidae) was proposed by Nye, 1980 (Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature 37 (3) : 189) to be placed on the Official List of Family-Group Names in Zoology. Heliothis Ochsenheimer, 1816 was treated as a valid genus and brought out of synonymy by Matthews, 1987, Systematic Entomology 12 (4) : 463. Poole (1989) included HELIOTHISA Meigen, 1832; HELIOTIS Sodoffsky, 1837; CHLORIDEA Duncan & Westwood, 1841; ASPILA Guenée, 1852 (preoccupied); HELIOCHEILUS Grote, 1865; RHODOSEA Grote, 1883; and DYSOCNEMIS Grote, 1890 as junior synonyms of HELIOTHIS Ochsenheimer, 1816. |
