| Memo: | Nye (1975) stated:- An unjustified emendation of Heliothis Ochsenheimer, 1816. Neave, 1939, Nomencl. zool. 2: 595, listed two earlier usages of Heliotis, neither of which was nomenclaturally available. The first, * Heliotis Lefebvre, 1827 (see above), was an incorrect subsequent spelling. The second, * Heliotis Laporte, 1836, Revue Ent. (Silbermann) 4: 18, was listed as the minor name of a multiple original spelling of Hellotis Laporte, -Coleoptera, but I cannot find usage in the original reference. See: HELIOTHIS Ochsenheimer, 1816. Poole (1989) included HELIOTHISA Meigen, 1832; HELIOTIS Sodoffsky, 1837; CHLORIDEA Duncan & Westwood, 1841; ASPILA Guenée, 1852 (preoccupied); HELIOCHEILUS Grote, 1865; RHODOSEA Grote, 1883; and DYSOCNEMIS Grote, 1890 as junior synonyms of HELIOTHIS Ochsenheimer, 1816. |
