| Memo: | Fletcher (1979) stated:- S. drepanula is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena luciata Stoll, 1790, in Cramer, Uitlandsche Kapellen (Papillons exot.) (Aanhangsel): 56, pl.12, fig.5. In the generic diagnosis, Herrich-Schüffer, 1855, ibidem 6: 118 included two nominal species, Hemioplisis drepanularia Herrich-Schüffer ([1856], Samml. neuer oder wenig bekannter aussereur. Schmett. 1(1): wrapper, pl.84, fig.480) and Syssaura drepanula Hübner, 1823; when the genus was originally proposed, only the latter name had been published. S. drepanula thus became type-species by monotypy. Hemioplisis was included by Herrich-Schüffer in his `Synopsis familiarum Lepidopterorum' which was published first in Syst. Bearbeitung Schmett. Eur. 6: 82-123. The title-page of volume 6 is dated 1843-1856 but Herrich-Schüffer, 1869, CorrespBl. zool. -min. Ver. Regensburg 23: 214, has stated that Heft 68 (which included the Synopsis) was published in 1855; the Heft wrapper is so dated. The same Synopsis was included in Samml. neuer oder wenig bekannter aussereur. Schmett. 1: 2-52; the title-page of this work is dated 1850-1858 but Gerstaecker, 1857, Arch. Naturgesch. 23 (2): 431, has stated that pages 1-52 were published in 1856. Further information is given in the Introduction to this volume under Dates of some important Publications. Parsons et al. (1999) included COMIBAENA Herrich-Schäffer, 1855; DREPANODES Guenée, 1857; HALESA Walker, 1860; and HEMIOPLISIS Herrich-Schäffe, 1855 as junior synonyms of PATALENE Herrich-Schäffer, 1854. Pitkin (2002) included Hemioplisis Herrich-Schäffer, 1855; Comibaena Herrich-Schäffer, 1855; Drepanodes Guenée, [1858]; Halesa Walker, 1860; Astatomorpha Warren, 1894; and Porona Schaus, 1901 as junior synonyms of Patalene Herrich-Schäffer, [1854] 1850-1858. |
