Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- In his diagnosis on page 63 Dalman cited only. Papilio virgaureae Linnaeus which is therefore the type-species by monotypy, [not so, see below] though further species were added later (: 91). Cowan (1970: 48) stated:- HEODES Dalmami, 1816, K. Svenska VetenskAkad. Handl. 1816 (1) : 63, 91. Type-species by designation by Crotch, 1872 (Cistula nat. 1 (4) : 71) : Papilio virgaureae Linnaeus, 1758, Syst. Nat. (ed. 10) 1 : 484. Dalman's paper appeared in two parts. Had the break been before page 90, his three subgenera of Zephyrus (Aurotis, Heodes, Cyaniris) would have been monotypic, containing each the one species cited as examples on page 63. But the listed species on pages 90-101 (after which the break actually occurred) all rank as included, and the designations made by Crotch were necessary and are valid, [the type-species designation is thus changed from by monotypy (Hemming 1967, p.215) to - by designation by]. Heodes Dalman, 1816 was designated as an invalid generic name by Niculescu, 1971, Revue roum. Biol. (Zool.) 16 : ????. [Heodes was also treated as a valid genus by Hemming, 1967]. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
