Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Phalaena cruciata is a junior subjective synonym of Bombyx asella [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, Ankündung syst. Werkes Schmett. Wienergegend: 65. Incorrect type-species: (1) Bombyx testudo [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, a nominal species not originally included in Heterogenea, and not linked with one of the originally included nominal species when designated by Boisduval, 1836, Hist. nat. Insectes (Spec. gén. Lépid.) 1: 137. (2) Bombyx asella [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, a nominal species not originally included in Heterogenea, and not linked with one of the originally included nominal species when designated bby Boisduval, 1836, ibidem 1: 143; and by Westwood, 1840, Introd. mod. Classif. Insects 2 (Synopsis Genera Br. Insects): 91. In both cases the nominal species was cited as asellus, a mandatory change. Heterogenea was established as a subgenus of Phalaena Linnaeus, 1758.
