Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- An incorrect subsequent spelling of Hoplitis Hübner, [1819]. The Lepidoptera part of Nomencl. zool. (Nom. syst. Generum Anim.) was included in Fascicles 9 and 10 issued in one wrapper dated 1846. The index universalis formed Fascicle 12 of the work; the wrapper is dated 1847, the title-page is dated 1846. * Hoplites Agassiz, 1846, was placed by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature on the Official Index of Rejected and Invalid Generic Names in Zoology: Name No.289 as `(emend. of Hoplitis Hübner, [1819]) (suppressed under the Plenary Powers for the purposes both of the Law of Priority and of the Law of Homonymy)'. There is no justification for regarding this usage by Agassiz as an emendation, but the result is the same as either way this usage is not nomenclaturally available.
