Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Incorrect type-species: Bombyx caestrum Hübner, [1808], a nominal species not originally included in Hypopta, and not linked with one of the originally included nominal species when designated by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 863. Hypopta was dated by Barnes & McDunnough from [1820] 1816, Verz. bekannter Schmett.: 195, then thought to have been published in 1822. In the Verzeichniss five species were included in Hypopta, but of them only Hypopta ambigua Hübner and Phalaena tristis Drury were included in Hypopta in the Zuträge. HYPOPTA was included within the subfamily COSSIDAE: HYPOPTINAE by Gentili & Horak, in Kristensen (1999).
