Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:- Hannemann cited as type-species Phalaena octomaculata Linnaeus, [1771], a nominal species not originally included in Anania. At the same time, however, Hannemann placed octomaculata as a senior synonym of guttalis, a nominal species originally included in Anania. Under the Code, Article 69(a)(iv), this designation constitutes the fixation of the originally included name as the type-species. Incorrect type-species. (1). Phalaena octomaculata Linnaeus, [1771], a nominal species not originally included in Anania, and not linked with one of the originally included nominal species when designated by Westwood, 1840 Introd. mod. Classif. Insects 2 (Synopsis Genera Br. Insects): 106. (2). Pyralis funeralis Hübner, 1796, a nominal species not originally included in Anania, and not linked with one of the originally included nominal species when designated by Shibuya, 1928, J. Fac. Agric. Hokkaido imp. Univ. 22: 280. (3). Phalaena funebris StrÖm, 1768, a nominal species not originally included in Anania, and not linked with one of the originally included nominal species when designated by Mutuura, 1954, Bull. Univ. Osaka Prefect. (B) 4: 15. See also: Ennychia Treitschke, 1828. Shaffer (pers. comm.) treats ANANIA in the CRAMBIDAE: PYRAUSTINAE.
