Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- The exact date of publication in 1862 of the name Ithomeis Bates is of importance because there is a name Ithomiopsis Felder (C.) & Felder (R.) which was also published in 1862 and which is currently treated as a subjective synonym of Ithomeis Bates. Fortunately, information on this subject is provided in a note published by Bates in 1868 (J. linn. Soc. Lond. Zool. 9 : 430), in which he recorded that the name Ithomeis was published in September 1862 and Ithomiopsis in December of that year. The name Ithomeis Bates has therefore clear priority over the name Ithomiopsis Felder & Felder. The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008). See images at Butterflies of America.
