Invalid type-species designation: Sphinx rustica Fabricius, 1775, designated by Grote & Robinson, 1866, Ann. The authorship of Macrosila Walker, 1856, was incorrectly attributed by Herrich-Schäffer, [1858] 1850-1858, Samml. neuer oder wenig bekannter aussereur. Schmett. 1 (1): 59 to Boisduval; Macrosila was a Boisduval manuscript name made available by Walker. Boisduval, 1870, Considérations Lépid. Guatemala: 72 and [1875] 1874, Hist. nat. Insectes (Spec. gén. Lépid. Hétérocères) 1: 60, attributed the authorship to himself.
