Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- Both Bingham (1907, Faun. Brit. Ind. Butts 2 : 302) and Swinhoe ([1910], in Moore, Lept ind. 7 (81) : 200) identified Malais with Logania Distant, 1889, adding that the type-species of that genus was Logania malayica, but neither of these authors then selected a type-species for Malais which remained without a type-species until (as shown above) Logania malayica was so selected in 1960. The name Malais Doherty is invalid, as it is a junior objective synonym of Logania Distant. Cowan (1970: 51) stated:- MALAIS Doherty, 1889, J. Asiat. Soc. Bengal II 58 (4) : 414-415, 436. Type-species by designation by Corbet, 1940 (Proc. R. ent. Soc. Lond. (B) 9 (6) : 111) : Logania sriwa Distant, 1886, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (5) 17 : 331. This name is valid, but is subjectively synonymous with Logania Distant, 1884, a fact which Doherty himself soon realised. [This replaces the type-species - Logania malayica Distant, 1884, Rhop. malay. : 208, pl. 22, fig. 21 - female, (in Hemming 1967, p.273).] The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
