Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:- Incorrect type-species: Phalaena verticalis Linnaeus, 1758, a nominal species not originally included in Margaritia, and not linked with one of the originally included nominal species when designated (1) by Boisduval 1836 Hist. nat. Insectes (Spec. gén. Lépid.) 1: 148 (but cited for Margaritia Kirby, an incorrect authorship); and (2) by Westwood, 1840, Introd. mod. Classif. Insects 2 (Synopsis Genera Br. Insects): 106. Margaritia was again proposed as a new genus by Stephens, 1829 [June], Nom. Br. Insects: 46; 1829 [July], Syst. Cat. Br. Insects (2): 164; and 1834, Illust. Br. Ent. (Haustellata) 4: 46.
