Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:- When established in the key, the generic name was published as * Maruea, a spelling that has not been used subsequently. To preserve stability, * Maruea has been deemed an incorrect original spelling and Maruca has been adopted in this catalogue as the correct spelling. The date of publication of the Guérin-Méneville work is taken from Cowan, 1971, J. Soc. Biblphy nat. Hist. 6 (1): 18-29. H. aquitilis was also figured by Gray, 1832 [September], in Griffith & Pidgeon, Animal Kingdom . . . by the Baron Cuvier, with supplementary Additions to each Order 15: 788, pl. 129, fig. 9; the plate 129 is a copy of Guérin-Méneville's plate 90. The date of the Griffith & Pidgeon work is taken from Cowan, 1969 ibidem 5 (2): 137-140. Hydrocampe aquitilis was a Boisduval manuscript name made nomenclaturally available by Guérin-Méneville. See also: * Maruea Walker, 1859 [May 14]. As * Maruea, an incorrect original spelling. Nomenclaturally available but without included nominal species until Walker, 1859 [October 8] ibidem 18: 540. MARUCA was included within the subfamily CRAMBIDAE: PYRAUSTINAE by Munroe & Solis, in Kristensen (1999). Shaffer (pers. comm.) treats MARUCA in the CRAMBIDAE: SPILOMELINAE.
