Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- but cited as Siccia caffra Walker, 1854, a nominal species not originally included in Melania. Hampson, on page 390, placed caffra as the senior synonym of nigropunctata, a nominal species originally included in Melania. Under the Code, Article 69(a)(iv), this designation constitutes the fixation of the originally included nominal species as the type-species. A junior homonym of Melania Lamarck, [1799], Mém. Soc. Hist. nat. Paris [1]: 75. There is no objective replacement name but L. nigropunctata Wallengren, thr type-species of Melania Wallengren, is a junior subjective synonym of S. caffra Walker, the latter is therefore available for use as a subjective replacement name. Melania was redescribed by Wallengren in 1865, K. svenska VetenskAkad. Handl. 5 (4): 40.
