Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Houlbert, on page 78, placed only one species in Melanostrigus, Cossus persona Le Guillou, 1841. On page 112, in the `Catalogue systématique de la Tribu XYLEUTINAE' the name persona was omitted from the list of species included in Melanostrigus and the two names Zeuzera leuconata Walker, 1856, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 7: 1537, and Zeuzera signata Walker, 1856, ibidem 7: 1537, were listed. Z. leuconota is a junior subjective synonym of Cossus persona and Z. signata is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena strix Linnaeus, 1758, the type-species of Strigomorphus Houlbert, 1916. As two of the three names, persona and leuconota, relate to the species first included in Melanostrigus, the senior of the two names, has been cited as type-species. Melanostrigus was established as a subgenus of Xyleutes Hübner, [1820].
