Memo: Nye (1975) stated:- Druce used this generic name without any indication that it was new, even though his new species described on the same page were marked sp. n. The generic name was probably obtained from Hampson as an identification and was used and unintentionally made nomenclaturally available by Druce before Hampson's generic description was published. Parangitia was the spelling adopted by Hampson, 1910, as first reviser under the Code, Article 32 (b), from a multiple, by original spelling. Parangitia was used by Druce as the generic name for the first of the included species and * Parangilia was used for the other three. Poole (1989) included PARANGITIA Hampson, 1910 (preoccupied) as a junior synonym and jnuior homonym of PARANGITIA Druce, 1909. Poole (1989) included 23 species in the genus PARANGITIA.
