Memo: Parascotia Hübner, [1825] 1816 was treated in the Noctuidae: Ophiderinae in Nye, 1975, 1 : 370. Parascotia was referred from the Herminiinae to the Catocalinae within the Noctuidae by Tikhomirov, 1979, Trudy Zoologicheskogo Instituta Akademii Nauk SSSR 82 : 82. Nye (1975) stated:- G. carbonaria is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena fuliginaria Linnaeus, 1761, Fauna Suecica (Edn 2): 327. Fletcher (1979, Generic Names Moths World) and Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- Further information in Nye, 1975, Generic Names Moths World 1: 370. [See above]. Poole (1989) included PARASCOTIA in the subfamily OPHIDERINAE, treated as CALPINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). Poole (1989) included BOLETOBIA Bosiduval, 1840; BOLITOBIA Agassiz, 1847; and KARA Matsumura, 1925 as junior synonyms of PARASCOTIA Hübner, 1825. Poole (1989) included 7 species in the genus PARASCOTIA.
