Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- The type-species of this nominal taxon (established by de Lesse as a subgenus of Pyronia Hübner, [1819]) was for long known by the name Papilio pasiphae Esper, [1781] (Die Schmett. 1 (Bd 2) Forts. Tagschmett. : 99, pl. 67, fig. 4 - male) and it was no doubt on this account that de Lesse gave the name Pasiphana to this taxon. The reason why it was necessary to abandon the use of Esper's name for this species was that it was found to be invalid under the Law of Homonymy, being a junior homonym of Papilio pasiphae Cramer, [1775] (Uitl. Kapellen 1 (7) : pl. 80, fig. E). The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
