Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- Phiala when established was not placed in a family; it was placed in the Liparidae, now Lymantriidae, by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 446; and was placed in the Striphnopterygidae, now Eupterotidae, by Aurivillius, 1901, Bihang K. svenska VetenskAkad. Handl. 27 (Afd.4) 7: 15. Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- In Article 68(a)(i) of the Code it is stated that: 'The formula 'gen.n., sp.n', or its exact equivalent, applied before 1931 to only one of the new nominal species influenced in a newly established nominal genus, is to be interpreted as original designation if no other type-species was designated'. Wallengren established Phiala with two included nominal species headed 'Phiala xanthosoma n.gen.et.sp.' and 'Phiala dasypoda n.sp.'; Phiala xanthosoma is thus type-species by original designation. Phiala was again proposed as a new genus by Wallengren, 1865, K. svenska VetenskAkad. Handl. (N.F.) 5 (4): 33. Phiala when established was not placed in a family; it was placed in the Liparidae, now Lymantriidae, by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heteroptera 1: 446; and was placed in the Striphnopterygidae, now Eupterotidae, by Aurivillius, 1901, Bihang K. svenska VetenskAkad. Handl. 27 (Afd.4) 7: 15. See also: Heteromorpha Herrich-Schäffer, [1855]. Phiala Wallengren, 1860, was treated as a valid genus by Vari & Kroon, 1986 Southern African Lepidoptera. A series of cross-referenced indices, p. viii. PHIALA was included within the subfamily EUPTEROTIDAE: EUPTEROTINAE by Lemaire & Minet, in Kristensen (1999).
