Memo: Nye (1975) stated:- Proposed, unnecessarily, as an objective replacement name for Pyrophila Stephens, 1829, which Guenée considered to be a junior homonym of Noctua pyrophila [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775. Philopyra is cited in Neave, 1940, Nomencl. zool. 3: 713 as being proposed by Guenée, 1838, ibidem 7: 116, where it is used for the second time. See: AMPHIPYRA Ochsenheimer, 1816. Poole (1989) included SCOTOPHILA Hübner, 1821; PYROPHILA Stephens, 1929; PHILOPYRA Guenée, 1852; and NEOCOMIA Rougemont, 1902 as junior synonyms of AMPHIPYRA Ochsenheimer, 1816.
