Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:- Incorrect type-species. Phycidicera salebrialis Snellen, 1880 (post July 24), a nominal species not originally included in Phycidicera and not linked with one of the originally included nominal species when designated by Munroe, 1967 Can. Ent. 99: 722. Phycidicera was established as a new genus with one included nominal species, P. manicalis Snellen, in 1880 (pre July 24), Midden-Sumatra 4 (8): 71. The complete text of Snellen's Lepidoptera contribution to Midden-Sumatra, pages 1-84, was published in 1880, its publication being recorded by Kirby, 1881, in Rye, Zool. Rec. 17 (Insecta): 127. Phycidicera was again used by Snellen in 1880 (post July 24) Tijdschr. Ent. 23: 228, in the description of P. salebrialis. The solution to the problem of which usage of Phycidicera was published first in 1880 was provided by Snellen himself in an address, as their president, to the Nederlandsche Entomologische Vereeniging on 24 July 1880, recorded in 1881 Tijdschr. Ent. 24 (1880-1881): viii, ix. In it he stated that volume 23 of the society's journal was almost ready (page viii, lines 13, 14) and that his survey of the Lepidoptera of the Sumatra Expedition had not only been completed but that the text thereof had already been printed and issued (page ix, line 12 onwards). We are grateful to Dr A. Diaknoff of the Rijksmuseum. Leiden for drawing our attention to Snellen's address and for providing us with a translation of his remarks.
