Memo: Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- P. saldonana is a junior subjective synonym of Sphinx appendiculata Esper, 1783, Die Schmett. 2 (Fortsetz.): 227, pl.35, figs 5, 6. Fabricius, 1794, Ent. Syst. 3 (2): 245, synonymized P. saldonana with Pyralis vahliana Fabricius, 1787, ibidem 2: 225; Werneburg, 1864, Beiträge Schmettkde 1: 465, synonymized P. saldonana and P. vahliana with Sphinx appendiculata Esper, 1783; Wocke, 1871, in Staudinger & Wocke, Cat. Lepid. eur. Faunengeb. (2): 266, repeated Werneburg's synonymy. Procerata Berthold originated from the vernacular name Procérate used by Latreille, 1825, Familles naturelles du Règne Animal: 476. Procérate was again latinized, with the same included nominal species, by Latreille, 1829, in Cuvier, Règne Animal (Edn 2) 5: 412. Nye & Fletcher (1991) stated:- Procerata Berthold originated from the vernacular name Procérate used by Latreille, 1825, Families naturelles du Régne Animal: 476. Procérate was latinized to Procerata with the same included nominal species by Latreille, 1829, in Cuvier, Régne Animal (Edn 2) 5: 412.
