Memo: Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:- Psycharium when established was not placed in a family; it was placed in the Liparidae, now Lymantriidae, by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 498; was transferred to the Megalopygidae by Aurivillius, 1894, Dt. ent. Z. Iris 7: 189; was placed in the Arctiadae, now Arctiidae by Hampson, 1901, Cat. Lepid. Phalaenae Br. Mus. 3: 451; was transferred to the Zygaenidae by Jordan, 1928, Novit. zool. 34: 136; and was transferred to the Somabrachyidae by Tremewan, 1973, Bull. Br. Mus. nat. Hist. Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:- Psycharium when established was not placed in a family; it was placed in the Liparidae, now Lymantriidae, by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 498; it was placed in the Megalopygidae by Aurivillius, 1894, Dt. ent. Z. Iris 7: 189; it was placed in the Arctiadae, now Arctiidae, by Hampson, 1900, Ann. S. Afr. Mus. 2: 63, but was retained in the Megalopygidae by Dyar & Strand, 1913, in Wagner, Lepid. Cat. 16: 22, and by Hopp, 1928, in Seitz, Gross-Schmett. Erde 14: 445; it was transferred to the Zygaenidae by Jordan, 1928, Novit. zool. 34: 136, and was transferred to the Somabrachyidae by Tremewan, 1973, Bull. Br. Mus. nat. Hist. (Ent.) 28: 139. On the advice of our colleague, Mr D.J. Carter, who has examined larvae of Psycharium, the genus is retained in the Megalopygidae in this catalogue.
