(1999) included BESSOPHORA Meyrick, 1892; and PTYCHOPTERA Christoph, 1881 as junior synonyms of PTYGMATOPHORA Gumppenberg, 1887. Parsons et al. (1999) included only 1 species in the genus PTYGMATOPHORA.
