Memo: Nye (1975) stated:- Pyralis was originally proposed as a subgenus of Phalaena Linnaeus, 1758. Several species now in the Noctuidae were originally placed in Pyralis. Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:- Pyralis was placed on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology: Name No. 1060, with P. farinalis designated as type-species under the plenary powers of the Commission. Neave, 1940, Nomencl. zool. 3: 1056, cited 'Pyralis [Denis & Schiffermüller] 1775' as the first available use of this name. See also: Asopia Treitschke, 1828; Spyrella Rafinesque, 1815. PYRALIS was included within the subfamily PYRALIDAE: PYRALINAE by Munroe & Solis, in Kristensen (1999).
