Memo: Hemming (1967) stated:- The taxon represented by the nominal species Papilio alveolus Hübner is currently treated subjectively on taxonomic grounds as being the same as that represented by the older-established nominal species Papilio malvae Linnaeus, 1758, Syst. Nat. (ed. 10) 1 : 485. The name Pyrgus Hübner has been placed by the Commission by its Opinion 278 (1954, Opin. int. Comm. zool. Nom. 6 : 135-178) on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology as Name No. 706. PYRGUS was included within the subfamily HESPERIIDAE: PYRGINAE by Ackery et al., in Kristensen (1999). The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008). See images at Butterflies of America where it is treated in the Pyrrginae: Pyrgini.
